Burundi is a small, landlocked African country located to the south of Rwanda and between the Democratic Republic of Congo to the West and Tanzania to the East.
The washing station (Kibingo) is known for the wooden bridge that was built over the river that runs through it. The name 'Kibingo' comes from the Kirundi word urubingo which means 'reeds'. Reeds were planted along the river to contain the water and to prevent the surrounding soils from eroding. This washing station collects cherries from over 3500 local coffee farmers which are spread over the 18 neighbouring collines. During the harvest season, Kibingo processes more than 750 tons of coffee.
Think hot, buttered, hot cross buns, perhaps with some apricot or peach jam, and you've got this coffee! Lots of complex sweetness going on, very moreish. Delicious as a black coffee, but with excellent cut through in milk.
