Two coffees this month. One built for the occasion. One that earns its place every time.
Espresso — Big Dad Energy
Rwanda Cyesha Microlot · Honduras Mariano de Jesus · Limited Release
Chocolate Ripple Cake · Rum & Raisin · Molasses · Stewed Fruit
We roasted Big Dad Energy for Father's Day, but the name doesn't need a date on it. That quiet, unshakeable confidence — the kind that fixes things without being asked and knows what's wrong with the car from the sound alone. We bottled it.
Rwanda Cyesha brings the fruit and the structure. Honduras Mariano de Jesus brings the weight. Together they land somewhere between nostalgia and reliability: chocolate ripple cake warmth, rum & raisin richness, thick molasses depth, and stewed fruit rounding out the finish. Bold enough to cut through milk. Patient enough to shine as a long black.
This was always a limited run. These are the last bags — once they're gone, that's it until next Father's Day. If you've been sitting on the fence, get off it.
Filter — Ethiopia Organic Yirgacheffe Foge
Gedeo, Gedeb · Natural · Heirloom Varietals · 1800–2000m
Crème Brûlée · Blackcurrant · Dried Stonefruit · Nut Butter
Foge is a washing station in eastern Yirgacheffe, run by a producer family who've been at it for two generations. Tsedenia and Fikadu grew up surrounded by coffee — their father built the export business, and they're now pushing it deeper into specialty. Six washing stations across Yirgacheffe and Guji, all organic production, all sun-dried on raised beds. Quietly serious work.
The coffee reflects it. Dark, dense, rich — blackcurrant and dried stonefruit up front, crème brûlée sweetness through the middle, nut butter on the finish. It punches hard as a black coffee and still cuts through milk when you need it to. It's also the backbone of our Happy Daze blend, so if you've ever wondered where that depth comes from, now you know.
Foge is as good as Yirgacheffe naturals get. September reminded us why it stays on the list.
